There is a saying “paradise is a state of mind.” What a powerful statement. Everything comes down to our state of mind. When we think positive, our attitude is positive and our life is positive. Thinking negatively, produces a negative life.  You cannot live a positive life with a negative mind.  A positive thought is 1000 times stronger than a negative thought. Positive thoughts and feelings vibrate at a higher frequency throughout your body, while negative thoughts and feelings lower your vibrations. The people who are the happiest, are the ones who have decided to be happy. They are happy on the inside, because true happiness depends on your internal situation and is not affected by outside influences.

It is also said, “You don’t see the world as it is, you see the world as you are.” You see the world from the state of mind that you are in. Some days we wake up on the wrong side of the bed and we tell ourselves, “This is going to be a horrible day,” and guess what happens? The whole day is horrible because your mind is searching for other reasons to go along with that powerful suggestion of experiencing a horrible day. That is called ‘The Blue Car Effect.’ For example, when you purchase a blue car, you start seeing tons of blue cars everywhere you look. It’s not that everybody bought a blue car on the same day as you. Your mind is singling out what you are experiencing, finding more of the same thing (you may start noticing quite a few blue cars over these next few days!).

Have you ever started your day out poorly and then decided to take charge and have a good day instead? It can be done.  I used to fall into the trap of negativity, thinking if today started bad, it will end badly- until I realized I am in control. It took some work to change my thinking and create the habit of choosing what I want to experience. When things don’t go as planned, I have the power to tell myself, “Things are looking up from here. Good things are about to happen to me. Today is a good day.” Guess what happens then? My mind searches for those blue cars. I will find plenty of reasons as to why my day is now a successful day. You will be amazed at how well this works once you get the hang of it.

The next time your day isn’t going as planned, remind yourself paradise is a state of mind, or think of the Blue Car Effect. Take a moment to breathe deeply and tell yourself, “Things are going to get better now. Today is going to be an amazing day. I choose to be positive now.” Choose what you experience.

You may not choose every thought that pops into your head, but you choose which thoughts you give power to. You choose what your mind searches for, whether it’s a blue car or a red one. You don’t have complete control of your outside circumstances and things don’t always go as planned. Even paradise has sudden thunderstorms. You can control your inside circumstances and you can control your mind. Train your mind to search for the positive and to experience paradise.

Remember, happiness is a choice.
